I was listening recently my revived Yamaha B-2 and was thinking if it has “interesting” in bass. Coincidently this week had great influence by the celebrated contrabassoonist Susan Nigro, so I shut down Macondo and let B-2 with MiniMe to care the job...

I got today from my machinist the complete MiniMe enclosure, he did a good job. It looks so simple but it was reportedly pain in ass to do it, not to mention that it turned out to be much more expensive then I originally expected. The good part...
Actually it turned out that LE5-2/2105 are much more complicated driver and to sound right it need way more complex crossover then juts a band-pass the I initially unused. I spend some time with it today but did not find a ...

This is about the Focal Utopia TN51 tweeter....
It is hard to imagine not much I like this tweeter, in fact there is something insanely beautiful in this tweeter and from a certain perspective (narrow-certain) I like it even more then the HF o...

The MiniMe, as much as the rest of my playback have lost the “novelty”. I do not do or planning to do anything with audio. I have found the way to calm down my Focal tweeters and it… will die this way. For what MiniMe meant to be it does very goo...

Well, it is very obvious what MiniMe needs. The speaker is begging for multiamping. The speaker has 2 distinctly different sections. The HF section has 4-5db higher sensitivity and SET friendly. The LF section needs 100W of output impedance that deal...
|
We all know how low-power SETs sound driving low-sensitively ported speakers. The Morons feel that it they have “enough volume” then their SET is good to go. Of course it is not the case and low-power SETs shell not driver dead speakers.
However, I ...
Hey, look what I found: 3’5” passive radiator with 30Hz own primary resonance! That is what doctor ordered!

Actually in multi-amping is does work and I was able to get quite assessable sound that might be considered OK for MiniMe. The HF channels do very nice with SET and the bass section does Ok for MiniMe. I think now I am encouraged to complete the seco...

I went for a better amp for MiniMe because it’s summer, hot and I am listening MiniMe more than Macondo.
But!
As I said before the MiniMe post talks with Macondo (when I turn Macondo on) and it forces me to plug the MiniMe port with a pile...

Here are a number of threads at my site where the concept of “Rightsizing from extreme systems....” is pitched. I looked into the “second” systems not because I was interested in “different sound”. In fact I insist that multiple playbacks in the same...
After some consideration I picked today Yamaha B-2 amp. It is V-FET from 1978, it might be interesting. Post Vince’s site or his shop info I might need to have B-2 serviced or modified. I think the 140W of B-2 might be goo...
… I am going to revise my "Mini" speakers for a second system (different location) and I have not decided how serious they should be.
From one point I would like it to be better, not because it need to be but beca...

It is not that I hugely like it, in fat if I know about them what I know now I would probably try something else. But B-2 does what it does, it has some cone and pros and it is not much different than any other SS amps I would try. Also, I found a w...

I have some strange feeling about this MiniMe idea and I really hate those feelings. The entire concept of MiniMe was to have painlessly integrated with large-speakers mini-monitor with somehow “not to revolting sound”. However, as I go slowly along ...
1) It is not strictly audio project but it kind of related: I need to move my audio site out of my static IP DSL line to a data center. I have high-speed ADSL but the site has a lot of traffic and my crappy DSL li...
Funny I thought that that for MiniMe it would not be so critical but as soon I plugged the DEQ-2496 in MiniMe pass I have heard that depersonalized DEQ sound.
It is funny how some people seem to not hear this at all ...

While the left channel of Macondo is out full-time service (while I am redoing my left Milq’s MF channel) I have been listening MiniMe for weeks. The MiniMe is in the stage how I let if a couple month back: I did not fine-tune the port and used in cr...

Ok, I did play today with the MiniMe. I have to tell that then it turn black I kind got soften with it does not look to me as large and violent as I initially thought. I made some measurement and some listening. I peaty much know what I want to be an...

Hm, this is interesting.
I have my 2 shitty temporary monitors in Hamster position sublimated with a par of LF sections from MiniMe. They are not perfectly set up but quite listenable in it’s ad-hoc configuration driver by consumer PP SS amp. Here ...

I do not know what the Fs of the drivers that will be using. I did not measure them yet. I have one of them in ¼ cub feet box with a port making 65Hz and two of them in 1/2 cub feet box making 38Hz. If I found more of the them then will be unit...

Running MiniMe in bi-amping, even though I get better result by simplistic means, I realized that it is hardly how I would like to end this project. Ideally the whole MiniMe shell be driven by one good SS amp running in A/B. If someone know any small...

Ok, I have both channels up and running and it looks like it is almost it. It left only re-measure everything , properly calibrate and tune up the port. So, how is it?
The project is success, it sound very pleasant and not anion for non-critical lig...

The last nigh I stopped by in the shop of my machinist. He did not finish the MiniMe as he is keep experimenting with better glue to assemble the MiniMe enclosure. All sides are prefabricated and are ready to glue, BTW, the G10 material turned out to...

Thanks, Gordon
I have absolutely no desire to undertake any DIY efforts for MiniMe amp. The amp that I want will be boxed, with bells and whistles, binding posts and matters. There were plenty of top of the line Yamahas, Sonys and Sansuis were...

I came across to a new to me very interesting driver: Scan- Speak Illuminator.

it looks like it is new for them as well and it might be very interesting. It is around 84dB, to get any more or less reasonable sen...

Yamaha B-2 reportedly was a top-flying amp in end of 70s, during it very brief production period. It has in a way cult reputation, so I’ve bitten it.
I was forced to very mildly and temporary modify it, just running the signal directly the ent...

Last two weeks I play a strange game with myself while I am waking in my room. I walk soft like a Cat and really pay attention where I lend my leads, I afraid to step on anything. Nope, I did not pawn my Cat and got a hamster. What I afraid to step o...
I feel a driver needs to be somewhat hard-mounted to the enclosure. Cork gives the right sort of balance between hard-mounting and floating, while still sealing, however it would be a pain to cut that many gaskets from cor...
